How to make Gourmet Straws

straw with chocolate and candy
  • These make great gifts or that special touch for your cocoa & coffee bar!
  • The best way to melt the chocolate is with a double boiler, no worries if you don’t have a ceramic one like the one pictured. A pot with water & pan on top will work.
  • Purchase straws in a color that will compliment the type of topping that will be used.
  • Add water to the bottom pot of boiler, make sure the top pot doesn’t touch the water. If it does it will become to hot scalding the chocolate. Set to medium heat.
  • Place wax paper on counter, this is where the straws will cool to set.
  • Have crushed candy/sprinkles premixed in a shallow pan long enough for the straw to fit. Try milk chocolate, salted caramel with toffee too. The combinations are endless!
  • When the chocolate becomes soft, pull pot off of water. Leave the other pot on so its ready to heat when needed.
  • I found a spoon useful to help get the chocolate onto the straw. Cover the straw in chocolate.
  • Roll straw in the pan of sprinkles.
  • Set to side on wax paper to cool & set.
  • Package in a goodie bag or put a few in a mug to use!
  • Shopping list:
